Each week Bill Maher surrounds himself with a panel of guests which include politicians, actors, comedians, musicians and the like to discuss what's going on in the world.

The three-time Grammy winner will chat with Gloria Estefan, Jonas Brothers, Lizzo, and Teddy Swims about music as well as their personal lives, giving viewers a “a front-row pass” at their “unfiltered” conversations. The four-episode special will also feature musical performances in an “intimate, unplugged setting.

The show featured children's book author Tomie dePaola and his Muppet friend Gabe the squirrel, encouraging children to make their own stories in a variety of media. In each episode, Tomie told a story featuring his storybook characters Strega Nona, Big Anthony and Bambolona. Gabe visited The Animal Band, a group of woodland creatures, including a rabbit on drums, a weasel on guitar, a penguin on bass, and a raccoon on keytar. Each episode also featured a visit with a guest storyteller or two (often people connected to the Jim Henson Company). The final segment of each episode included a child actor playing Tomie enacting stories from his book "26 Fairmount Avenue."

Chloride, Arizona, Larry Dagger, forty years old, is an unemployed, ex demolition derby pilot, trying to support his wife and two children. Driving home one night, he saves a man, Johnny, who is Christlike in appearance and that he finds lying naked and wounded in the road. Vera, Larry's wife, stitches, cleans his wounds. With no money, Johnny accepts to stay with the Daggers, convinces Larry to get back into derbying. Larry becomes obsessed with the idea of building a car for the next derby and Johnny starts having an affair with Vera. This stranger's arrival in the Daggers home will change their lives forever.
